one more day

I spent last week taking the natural dyeing course from Maiwa.  It is absolutely amazing!!! I learned so much about culture, history, chemistry, not to mention actual dyeing.
Totally worthwhile but a lot of work - everyone was exhausted at the end of the day.
Tomorrow is my last day to prepare for my fibre  oddessy .  I got my ticket to Seattle today.  yesterday I picked up my  treats from Birkland to distribute on the way.  Pearl gave me a little companion that I will photograph - but he is packed right now. Maybe someone can think of a name for him.
I bought a hockey bag to stash all my stuff - it is easy to fill - I will borrow a hitchhiker spinning wheel from Carmen tomorrow. She is a life saver.

  1. After 3 days on the train - I have made it to Fraser Colorado. The train was great - especially the last bit through a magnificent canyon and down the colorado river. A bit of a mix up in Granby re getting to the hostel which turned out to be in the next town. I landed at the train station where I was told there would be a cab but clearly there were none - some lovely people scooped me up and took me to a gas station where I found my phone not working but a friendly propriater who called the hostel (who would not give me a refund if i did not show up) - at that point I became a little panicky but finally had an idea that i would call janice the car rental lady and see if she would rent me a car one day early. Luckily I was able to contact janice and she swept in like a white knight - beautiful wearing mardi gras beads - and saved me by renting me a car one day early in about 5 minutes. I hugged her when we parted I was so grateful not to be standing at a lonely gas station considering curling up beside the empty garden equipment shelves outside. Every trip needs a close call - I hope that was mine.
Now that i have arrived at the hostel - it turns out to be lovely and Emily
is so nice and accomodating. I have a huge room with a clean bathroom and a SHOWER!!!! AFter 3 days it felt great.
I went to the Mexican restaurant next door for chille relleno -wow ! it tasted wonderful - I was the only one there and the waitress slathered me with attention.
Now that I have the car and nothing to do today I am thinking of making a little detour to Encampment where the spinning retreat is and visiting some yarn establishments on the way. There is actually a mill right here so that may be my first stop.
I have a cold and think that the sensible thing to do would be to rest for the morning then set off. We will see.

  2. Huzzah! You made it. I'm glad you are safe and not sleeping beside garden sheds. Take care of your cold and I enjoy reading your hilarious blog! Until Rhinebeck!
